You've got a data logger but haven't used LapBrain yet. Here's how to go from hardware on your bike to your first analysis.
What you need
- A data logger — AiM (MXS, MXG, EVO, Solo), MoTeC (i2), or RaceChrono (phone-based)
- GPS enabled — LapBrain needs GPS data for track maps and corner-by-corner analysis. Most loggers have GPS built in; for RaceChrono, your phone's GPS is used
- One track session — even a short practice session with 5-6 laps is enough
If you're not sure whether your logger records GPS, check the setup guide for your specific logger: AiM, MoTeC, or RaceChrono.
Mounting and channels
You don't need to configure specific channels for LapBrain — it reads whatever your logger records and uses what's available. That said, more channels mean richer analysis:
| Channel | What it enables |
|---|---|
| GPS (required) | Track maps, corner identification, lap cutting |
| Speed | Pace analysis, braking point detection |
| Throttle | Exit drive analysis, hesitation detection |
| Brake | Trail braking measurement, braking consistency |
| RPM | Gear change analysis |
GPS is the only required channel. If your logger records only GPS and speed, LapBrain still generates corner-by-corner coaching — just with less detail on braking and throttle technique.
Your first recording
- Mount your logger securely — vibration can cause GPS drift
- Power on before you leave the paddock — give the GPS time to acquire satellites (1-2 minutes)
- Ride normally — LapBrain works best with your natural riding, not a special "data collection" session
- Record at least 5-6 laps — more laps give LapBrain better statistical confidence in its analysis
Exporting your file
After your session, export the data file from your logger:
- AiM: The
.xrkor.xrzfile is in your logger's memory. Connect via USB or WiFi and use RaceStudio to export, or use the LapBrain app's WiFi sync feature - MoTeC: Export as
.ldor.ldxfrom i2 Pro - RaceChrono: Export as
.vboor.rczfrom the app's session list
See the detailed Data Logger Setup guides for step-by-step instructions.
What to expect
After uploading, LapBrain processes your session in 30-60 seconds. You'll get:
- A debrief with what you did well and coaching recommendations ranked by impact
- A track map with every corner numbered and analyzed
- Corner-by-corner analysis breaking each turn into five phases
Your first session establishes a baseline. The coaching becomes more powerful with each additional session at the same track — LapBrain tracks your progress and adapts its recommendations.
What to do next
- Upload your file — see Your First Session for the upload process
- Read your debrief — see Reading Your Debrief for what each section means
- Go ride again — with two sessions at the same track, LapBrain shows your improvement and starts tracking coaching threads
